A Game Destiny Wanted To Play

NOTE: written by  death_goddess of TCaf, this inspired my short story, "A Study In Scarlet"...

The sound of rain drops wrestling with the wind. Sweet throbbing of thunder into the sky. The weather was pleasantly violent. And it was amazing. Each soul searching for a place of refuge. Everything was dramatically out place. Adrian was alone with his guitar, randomly plucking the strings as to how his heart beats. Sticking his fingers on every fret reliantly on how he feels. Every tune was equal to the heart ache. His thoughts were scattered in his brain as he thinks back of every single memory his past love has left him. It aches! And he can’t bear it. But what really did happen? How has he become loveless despite of the pure love they both shared? Let’s find out…

Two souls bond by destiny met. Anne was having her time writing her poetry. It was her favorite leisure pursuit. poetry was her heart. Poetry was her passion. And Adrian, on the other part of the story, was sitting at a bench, not to far from where she was. Plucking his guitar, singing a love song. You might say he’s waiting for someone who’ll come his way, someone with the same tune with his heart. Someone who’ll take all the melody and sing it for him in absence of words. Someone who’ll make him fall in love

And so, destiny had a trick himself. The wind blew, flying off Anne’s paper, and blowing off Adrian’s hat, and taking their belongings on the same spot. It was like magic. Adrian caught the paper with a poem entitled “somebody, Give my Heart Back to Me” while his hat flew at Anne’s feet, with words embedded that goes “take my heart with you”… and so, their eyes crossed as they exchanged the items back. Then it was the start of another love story cupid has to play. A love story they never thought would change their lives completely.

And it happened. They love each other well. It was pure love. It was unconditional. It was real. Adrian was Anne’s prince. He was who she can say “would take my breath away”. He was like the love song Anne always wanted to hear. His voice makes her shiver. And she loves it. Anne was Adrian’s everything. She was her goddess. He could not think of any possible reasons to love her less. He loves Anne perfectly. It was like he could say “you’re too good to be true”. He loves every waking morning to find a piece of poetry on his door. Anne never fails to give him on. It was like a routine. And it makes him fall in love with her, madly. And he knew she was real. Everything was like that for 7 years, it never fades. Then they decided to be married. And so another story begins…

An early morning of a sunny Monday, Anne Jane Zanches of 28, she was simply graceful, her long hair falls at her back. Her hazel eyes were filled with unexplainable thoughts. Her white complexion glowed as the sun touches her skin. She was busy phoning everyone she knew, and invites them at her up coming wedding. She gets a too excited for a 5 days due wedding. She had already planned everything that’ll take place for the enchanted day. At last! A story that’ll sweep her off her feet has finally come to Anne. Her heart beats fast as she runs her thoughts about his groom. He looked into his eyes and she was certain, it was love.

Adrian Ralph Salazar, he was everything Anne would love, he was just sitting at the terrace, his eyes was wrapped around Anne as he wonder’s “how did this goddess ended up to be mine?” he loved her so much, his heart beats only for her… she was his world. Everything he could ever wish for. A love that will forever beat in him. A love that will soon forever be his in just a matter of 5 days.

Adrian stood up and walks towards Anne, thumbs her hair back and said softly “I love you” and touches his lips to hers. Anne felt their hearts intertwined at that very instant. She closed her eyes and wished it’ll never end. They we’re both so in love like there’s no tomorrow. Even after 7 years of being together, time never did let love fade away.

And every waking morning was another brand new excitement for the up coming wedding. Everything was in place. There’s nothing to stop it now two nights and it will be the awaited day. But, one afternoon, Anne was busy in her garden. She left her phone on a table at where Adrian was seated with his guitar, his favorite pastime. And then Anne’s phone rings… Adrian was calling out for Anne to pick up her phone. But she was too far to hear it. And so Adrian picked up… and
Caller: hello, Anne this is Marco, meet me at the big tree behind the church tomorrow, before your wedding. I need to see you again.

And he hanged up. Adrian’s eyes widened. And at that instant his world suddenly fell part. He felt a sudden heat of rage and he’s thoughts suddenly went blank. He didn’t know what to do. Has his love betrayed him? He doesn’t know. Who was that Marco guy? What does he have for Anne? Was Anne having an affair with that guy? He was so confused. He was afraid to confront her. Too afraid of the truth. He knew he can’t take it.

He took his car keys, and drove. It was 6:00pm, he went out to grab some beer. Then went to his favorite spot where he can see the city lights as he intoxicated himself with the dreadful alcohol. He was drunk. His eyes wonder down the city as he sees its light burn like fire. Alcohol could not drown the emotions in him. He was hopeless at the moment. Then he fell asleep on the ground he was on.

On the other side, at Anne’s part, it was already 9:00 pm, she was worried of where on earth Adrian was. She has phoned everybody they knew. No one could point out where her fiancé was. She was crying, there was nothing she can do, she was so worried. Where was his love and what was he up to, she really didn’t knew.

And then she heard foot steps from outside. She rushed and opened the door. It was Adrian. Still in depression of what happen. He was still in reverie of the phone call he answered, and the crazy stuffs that was feeding up on him. It drove him crazy. It tears him apart.

Anne was teary. She hugged him. But he did not hugged back. She asked “where were you? You scared me…” Adrian pushed her on the floor and shouted. “What’s up with that Marco guy that you were about to meet tomorrow night behind the church?” Anne’s eyes widened as she sat there speechless. Adrian’s eyes were like fire and said “aren’t you gonna say anything? Are you cheating on me?”... “I don’t know about that… Adrian I love you” she said. He was still confused “what are you taking me a fool for? ” Anne was crying and said softly “sorry, I’m not cheating on you. Marco was a guy from a one night stand. And I didn’t mean to do it. I was drunk. I was out of control. But, I swear I love you, and you alone. I would never meet up with him.” Tears fell from both their eyes. It was like the night was restless. Silence fell despite the crazy thunder and storm out side.. Both were stunned of the fact that had just revealed before them. The rain falls angrily on the ground. But it was nothing compared to the lightning that crashes inside their hearts. It was tormenting.

And finally Adrian broke the silence with words he never knew he would regret for a life time. Words that they never knew would came out that hour. Words that goes “ get out of my sight. I don’t want to be married with someone so unfaithful as you are!.” Then Anne stood up, and ran out the door. Adrian wanted to stop her, but his ego was eating him. He was dying as Anne ran away from him.

Anne was at the heart of the storm. She wasn’t afraid. The cold raindrops were as if calming her steaming heart. She had nowhere to go. An old church was not so far from where she was. It was the only place where she could stay for that stormy night. And there, she kneeled and pray. The storm was eating the whole night. Then the lights went off. The darkness was blinding the whole church. And then she heard foot steps. Coming closer and closer to where she was. She tried calling out “hello? Anyone there? Father is that you?” the possessor of the scary foot steps did not answer. The sound of wet shoes was getting louder and louder. It was so close to her “you’re scaring me. Who are you?”. Anne stood frozen. Her feet were as if buried to where she stood. She was crying. As soon as she was about to shout, a cold wet hand covered her mouth. Then another hand was tying up around her. She can’t move, nor can she shout. There was no escape. The wet body of a man started to push on her to the ground. Then it was trying to abuse her. The molester was on top of her, she wanted to scream, but nothing came out. She just can feel the evil that molester was doing on her body, she felt her clothes escaped from her. She cried in eerie of the unseen diabolic entity that was slowly taking over her. It has infiltrated her. The molester has stepped on Anne’s womanhood. She then felt a sudden punch on her abdomen. It shut her down.

It was 4:00 am, the rain has stopped, but the ground was wet. Adrian was out of shape. There was something on that hour that was making him feel so restless. He needed to find Anne and fast. He felt there was something wrong. He drove all over the city and he can’t find her. Then he thought “the church! I have to go there”

He was driving in an unthinkable speed. Then he was at the church before he knew it. He searched every corner. And there was no Anne. Then he remembered “the big tree” he ran, and there he found a body. Lying on wet ground. His Anne was not breathing. Blood has covered her naked body. Bones were broken. His love was dead! Crying can’t get her back. All his hopes and dreams with her goddess were washed away by that unfaithful evening. The perfect love story. The bond destiny has tied. It was all gone. Nothing’s left but memories. And he knew, he’ll never love again.
